FleishmanHillard Hong Kong was appointed by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) to support Business of Design Week 2020, one of the most significant global events for design, innovation and brands in Asia. Last year, HKDC innovated to create a ‘hybrid live’ event to raise awareness that the 2020 edition was going ahead in a brand-new format. BODW 2020 launched its first hybrid live edition from 30 November to 5 December 2020 with a first-of-its-kind partnership with ViuTV.
To promote BODW 2020, we leveraged the power of over 100 influential design and business leaders and the summit’s nine specific themes and developed an integrated communications approach that focused the media on positive exciting trends to look forward to in the post-pandemic era:
BODW 2020 was simulcast live on multiple channels: ViuTV, livestream platforms, social media and CitySalons offered livestreaming of the event at different locations in Hong Kong. FleishmanHillard Hong Kong successfully communicated the pioneering approach of the ‘hybrid live’ event and we secured over 1,120 pieces of media coverage from publications around the world, with PR value equivalent to HK$90 million. Despite the constraints caused by travel bans, quarantine rules and social distancing policies, we managed some 45 in-depth interviews with speakers and executives in publications and media in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other regions. Around 70 journalists also attended the BODW 2020 media preview and summit, with positive feedback on the format and the execution of the hybrid live virtual event and its extensive international speaker line-up.
